From Flickr: “Revo Electric, Tipton – electric discharge street lighting equipment, 1937 – mercury vapour lighting” by mikeyashworth

A page from a rather fine 1937 Revo street lighting catalogue showing a combination of the company’s columns, brackets, lantern and control equipment – and indeed this sort of combination was a common sight on UK streets for decades from the 1930s onwards. The mirrored reflector lantern seen here (almost like a ‘dickie-bow’) as also often seen with a standard tungsten bulb. The columns, in this case a ‘Hull’, are often named after the borough they were first designed for or ordered by.
