From Instagram: “This watercolor is from Topaz War Relocation Center in Utah, one of the internment camps where Japanese Americans were imprisoned during World War II. The artist was Toshio Asaeda. On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order #EO9066, which led to the imprisonment of 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry. Our annual Day of Remembrance commemorates this history with a film screening, panel discussion, and spoken word performance by National Poetry Slam champion G. Yamazawa.
