President Truman ordered the US Seventh Fleet into the Straits of Taiwan in order to present Chinese invasion of the island and to contain the conflict to the waters around Korea. Of note, the Korean War was the first conflict were US Forces served desegregated. On 26 July 1948, US Forces were desegregated when Truman signed Executive Order 9981.
