Just after the creation of independent Federation of Malaya but before Sarawak, Singapore and North Borneo became part of the larger Malaysia this one dollar note was issued by the joint Board of Commissioners of Currency. One state that the Commissioners covered and that did not join the new Malaysia was Brunei.
