An advert showing the onset of automatic control of both gas and electric street lighting – that had been easier with electric lighting due to the ability to run electric clock timing mechanisms, and a little more complicated for gas lighting where running current to run a timer might be seen as a little perverse! Horstmann’s ‘Newbridge’ timers were market leaders at the time.
