
This wash-drawing (monochrome grey wash and opaque white over pencil) by William Thompson Freeland depicts the May 23, 1896, launch of the steamship Primrose from the wharf at the foot of Portland St. Wm was the son of the wharf owner (Robert) and grandson of Peter, who founded the wharf on the site of his former soap and candle manufactory. By 1915, the wharf had been taken over by Canada Steamship Lines.
