The Toronto Reference Library (789 Yonge St.) currently features an exhibit on fashions from 1890-1914. This lovely portrait of the Marchioness of Aberdeen and Temair, Ishbel Maria Gordon, was taken in Toronto in 1897 during a ball at the Armouries. A celebrated pioneer of women’s rights and healthcare, she also wrote “Canadian journal of Lady Aberdeen, 1893-1898”, which is in our collection.
