On 15 Jan 1815, the frigate President, commanded by Stephen Decatur, encountered HMS Endymion out of New York. Decatur attempted to board her then scuttle President, damaged the previous night. British reinforcements arrived, HMS Majestic, HMS Tenedos, and HMS Pomone, which fired at President until Decatur surrendered. Captain Stephen Dectaur, USN, is wounded during the action between USS President, under his command, and a British Squadron, 15 January 1815. Engraving after J.O. Davidson.
