“WHEN FIRE INVADED SCHOOL: Girls at Havergal Hall yesterday recovering some of their belongings after the fire was out.” This photo appeared on page 15 of The Globe on April 14, 1923. Havergal College, which opened at 350 Jarvis St. in 1894, was named for Frances Ridley Havergal, an early Victorian composer, author and noted humanitarian. Three years after this fire, the school relocated to its current site, on the corner of Avenue Road and Lawrence Ave.
