This wintery scene from the 1850s depicts the Brockton toll gate, which stood on the north side of Dundas St. West between Sheridan Ave. and Brock Ave. Brockton Village was not annexed to Toronto until 1884.
This watercolour by John W. Cotton was painted in 1913, based on a much earlier line drawing by W. J. Thompson.
