Description: Female prisoners are standing in a line having their kits inspected at the new women’s prison. A full prisoner’s kit consisted of a chemise; a blue and white striped petticoat; a gown; a pair of coarse white stockings (all branded); a red cotton pocket handkerchief; a white apron; and a white mob cap with frills and strings to be tied under the chin. Other items were a pair of strong lace-up boots; a comb; a spoon; and a navy blue and white kerchief for the neck (Information taken from: The Queenslander, 28 November, 1903, p. 21).
