From Flickr: “London & North Eastern Railway – wandering the Continent, 1937” by mikeyashworth

A splendid scene – hikers high above a Continental river gorge (my money is on the Rhine!) and what a lure for 1937 travellers who wanted to get away for an ‘inexpensive and adventurous holiday with the aid of Youth Hostels’. This booklet, typical of the high quality output of LNER publicity, promotes travel across the North Sea via the LNER (and associated companies) services from Harwich, Grimsby and Hull.
