19-LC-14-14: USS Asheville (Patrol Gunboat #21), launched, bow view at the Charleston Navy Yard, Charleston, South Carolina, July 4, 1918. Asheville was sunk a few days after the Battle of the Java Sea, March 3, 1942, when she encountered a Japanese destroyer squadron and bravely fought despite the inevitable outcome.
