"Howard Carter was most interested in making ‘careful coloured drawings of the more interesting and important details among these mural decorations’. This cat is part of the fishing scene and is shown balancing on the stem of a papyrus plant which is bending underneath its weight. Griffith was inclined to think that it is in fact a domestic cat, and may even have belonged to the tomb owner, despite its apparent independence: ‘…it must be remembered that the domestic cat is very apt to stray and hunt for itself.’" – taken from ‘The Archaeological Survey’ by Christopher Naunton in The EES: the early years (http://ift.tt/1K0zwpt).
