Septimus E Scott was a highly regarded commerical artist in the early 20th century when detailed artwork was in vogue. I suspect that as tastes moved towards the more abstract by the late 1920s some of his work was seen as a little old fashioned. This edition of ‘Commercial Art’ contains an article on the artist and he was commissioned for the front cover – slightly ‘Brangwyn’ in style and one suspects it is Mercury firing his arrows of speed.
