From Flickr: “London & North Eastern Railway; This year? holiday brochure, 1924/5” by mikeyashworth

A booklet issued by the LNER to tempt travellers and partially by showing all the various booklets and leaflets they issued to drum up the all important leisure traffic. The cover shows the early version of the LNER logo that woudl soon be redesigned into more modern forms by the use of Gill typefaces. It shows a beach scene that is I think Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire, looking very alluring! The artist isn’t shown but I’m sure this illustration is a take of a poster by Henry George "Harry" Gawthorn, an artist the LNER used frequently. He usually appears in his own works – I wonder if he’s the louche figure in the flannels with his laces undone…
