Bannerman’s were over 100 years old in 1897 and were one of the earliest and largest integrated cotton companies in that they both spun and wove cotton cloth as well as made it on into finished goods. Founded and based in Manchester, then probably the capital of the world’s cotton industry this advert shows not just the processes used by Bannerman’s but also some of the surrounding towns and other industries present in south Lancashire and north Cheshire.
