From Flickr: “Queen Victoria’s Letter to the Nation on the death of her youngest son, Prince Leopald.” by The National Archives UK

Prince Leopald was the eighth and youngest child of Queen Victoria. He suffered from the genetic condition of haemophilia, inherited from his mother, and often stayed in Cannes when the British weather became too cold. On one such occasion, while his wife was pregnant with his second child, he slipped injuring his knee and head resulting in his death the following morning. In this letter, Queen Victoria thanks the nation for their sympathy and support for her and her widowed daughter-in-law.
