From the rather fine 1966 book produced by Daimler to commemorate their 70 years of production. Covenrty would have been mighty pleased to get an order from Midland Red (BMMO) as for many years that Bearwood, Birmingham based company had built their own vehicles and this marked a real shift in policy for the ‘Midland Red’. The route shown was also close to Daimler’s home as the 159 was the trunk route along the A45 between that city and Birmingham. Various images show scenes along the route, both urban and inter-urban. The Alexander bodied buses had, I recall, a pink interior – latterly the route and many of buses were transferred to the local Passenger Transport Executive and painted in theor blue and cream livery. This transfer allowed me, a callow youth with a Wumpty bus pass, to make ‘inter city’ bus journies to the far away city known as Coventry!
